I started my car up yesterday and was showing my brother and cousin my electric choke setup so when I started it I had the stock 1971 air cleaner off. I noticed when I put it back on (while it was running and after reaching temp) the idle dropped a little and ran a little rough. I now know that this stock dual snorkel air cleaner is choking my engine off a little. I want to keep the stock lid but I want to switch to an open element. Is there a company that makes a base that can be used with my K&N and stock top. I am running a Q-jet.
Thanks guys in advance.
Its not a 14" is it? There are some 10 and 12 inch aftermarket drop bases. Maybe a Mr Gasket? Edelbrock also makes a 10" but I don't know if its a drop base.
If nothing is found, try using some large diameter vacuum hose as a gasket around the top of the filter and then clamp your stock lid on. The vacuum hose will keep the lid from sealing down and letting in more air in the resulting crack opening.
