Re: 82 Remove CAT-Air Pump-Installing a "TEST PIPE." (MN-Brent)
On my '81 with the tubular manifold the AIR tubes were welded in place. If your happend to be screwed in you can use a pipe plug. Also if your AIR pump is computer controlled the check engine light will come on if it's not plugged in. But you could probably fix that with a resistor, but I never bothered to figure out the size needed. My computer was ripped out this winter.
Re: 82 Remove CAT-Air Pump-Installing a "TEST PIPE." (stickboy)
When I put TPI in my 69 I used C4 manifolds/headers. I took a hand grinder and cut the AIR "rakes" off as close as I could to the tubes. I took a drill that was just slightly larger than the tubes and drilled them out. Then I welded the holes shut. Hit them with a wire brush and they they look great. Got rid of the AIR tube extending into the header tube.
Re: 82 Remove CAT-Air Pump-Installing a "TEST PIPE." (MN-Brent)
i have removed my air pump .did not get a check engine light.for now i caped off the lines coming off the headers .you could use anything that will fit into the rubber hose.i dont want to cut my lines off the factory headers ,i may need or want them back later[emissions testing or may be the next owner will want or need them]the factory headers are not that good they are small ,so i would like to take them off and put on a good set that are more free flowing and that have been jet hot coated . my factory cat is still there but has been modifyed [hollowed out]it does help performance.

Thanks for the replies.
Twinnie-double thanks for the photo.
I looked at the CFI Vault too and found alot of good info on emissions removal steps. This photo speaks a 1000 words as to how to handle the air tubes.
Is it recommended to use teflon tape sealant on the threads?
