Maybe I can help move this thread along. I to need to decide on headers. Jet hotting them is a must but what is the recommended brand tube size etc. Are the Hooker super comps the way to go?
One guideline is to match the headers to the ex. valve. For "moderate" setups you could get the 1 7/8 Hookers.
Suggest increase power & get the 2" Hedman.
I've always been happy with Hooker tubes. I have installed upwards of 30 sets of headers (various brands) over the years and get consistent results with these. Not always a perfect fit right out of the box, but they always work well.
For the price, I also like heddman. Not quite as heavy construction, but consistently less expensive. Now if you want to go all out, I'm lusting after a set of Stahl side exhaust race headers!
Thank you for the input. I was hoping to use the Dynamax Ceramic coated ones, but they are not available for BB's. How/where do you get "Jet Coating" done?
Thank you to you all for your suggestions and comments. I decided to go with the Hooker Super Competition, ceramic coated (inside and out). For my engine, hooker recommended the 1 7/8 tubes w/3 inch collectors. These tuck under the car good (according to the tech I talked to), and bolt right up. I also puchased some Breslin Slpit-Lock header bolts from Eckler's; Summit doesn't carry them. Again, thank you from Anchorage!
In the interest of time, I ordered them from Summit. They are ceramic coated inside and out.
Be aware that the hooker coating sucks and does not compare to jet hot. I did the same thing you did and mine are dull and have some rust after a few years. :skep:
