I've been told "it can't be done"...Norval can do anything, as can some others out there. My '68 came sans seatbelts, and to be honest I don't trust lap belts much, and would rather install upgrades as long as I'm in the market. Has anyone ever retrofitted shoulder belts to a '68? I'll be buying some aftermarket racing-style seats if that helps any. Basically, I'd need to mount some kind of a solid anchor point somewhere for the upper attachment. I've never seen a C3 up close with factory shoulder belts to even see what the real deal looks like. Who can help me here? I'd rather not do 5-point harnesses, but I suppose a 4-point setup would be O.K. if not too ugly.
It's rather easy, actually. There was someone that posted pictures of the neccessary modifications. 69 and up can use the rear belts out of a 93-up camaro or firebird. 68 vettes need one bracket made to make this work, but the bracket is just a simple L-bracket. Hopefully someone will have a link to the pictures.
I'm running the camaro belts in my 71 since several years and they work great. Haven't tested them in a crash, though.
I installed a 5 point but the boys vetoed the crotch belt so I run a 4 point. My 75 seats had a chrome insert at the top. I removed this metal insert and cut out the groove, It was there just filled in. I had the leather modified and put the inserts back with the slots.
For a cross piece to anchor the shoulder belts and put a pipe across the back in the lip under the vents, or what use to be vents. It looks neet, I feel it is strong enough and it looks like the factory made it that way.
I will have to take pictures sometime.
