After this summer i will be driving my vette everyday to a private school in north houston and had a question. From what ive heard nobody there is an *ss about cars and doesnt mess with people's. But just to be sure it doenst get stolen or damaged, is there a certain kind of wax to prevent paint damage or security devices to prevent it from getting stolen? :(
if u have a eariler vette u have that alarm system in the front fender j/k u can always buy the thing for the battery which cuts off the power so it cant be started. but dont buy the club for it :nono:
Best thing is to install a kill switch that prevents it from starting. Hide the switch somewhere out of sight.
Next use a club. It can be cut fairly easily, but it is a highly visible item and many will figure it's more work than taking the car parked next to yours.
The key to keeping the car is to convince the thief your car is more work to steal than the other cars in the lot. Thiefs are lazy unless they are pros with an order for your exact car in which case they will get it.
In case they decided they want a C3 and manage to get it running (or have a flatbed), get lo-jack. They have a good recovery rate.

How much money do you have? I have read that some guys put a kill switch down near the bright lights so they have to step on it to start the car.
Another relatively inexpensive tool is a brake pedal lock that hooks to the steering wheel, some in more sophisticated manner than others. These work best if you turn the steering wheel all the way in one position or another.
Some alarm systems have key fobs that vibrate when someone is fooling with your ride. I have not seen these in a long time, though.
Good old fashioned vigilance is mandatory. Be careful where you park, who you park near, etc. Do not draw attention to yourself. Turn down the radio some time before you get to your final destination to minimize the risk of some dirtbag following you to find out where you are parking.
Do not park sideways across 2 or 3 spaces. This irritates people and somebody may make an example of you by vandalizing your car.
An aftermarket audible alarm can be installed invisibly to avoid issues with originality or can be installed in the open to deter simpletons, but not the pros.
Good Luck.
This is why I have $0 deductable auto insurance from Hagerty. I don't worry anymore. Everything can be repaired, no stress....
Hagerty doesn't cover the car for daily driving and won't pay if the car is stolen from a work/school parking lot. Car must be parked in a locked garage overnight. Occasional pleasure driving only is all that's allowed. No errands allowed (grocery stop, Home Depot, beer run). Can't drive the car as a "replacement" if your DD is in the shop...and so on, and so on...
$0 deductible is great. I have the same policy. Just don't get your car stolen from the mall parking lot on a Tuesday afternoon!
They can hacksaw through your steering wheel and be gone in 60 seconds. :steering:
I always thought that a good bolt cutter would make quick work of the steering wheel and render the Club useless. Best to use it in a street fight like a club. :boxing

you don't think they are going to find your cutout switch?
After talking to many car thieves I can tell you that "the club" is easily defeated with a long piece of pipe. they put it on one end and using the leverage just bend the club til it breaks.
Also know one that carried a cordless drill and drilled out the locks.
On old ignitions they will put a thinly filed down key in there turn it slightly to get an impression on the key then file it until it will turn the ignition and start the car.
I believe that the device that attaches to your brake pad and up against the floor is fairly effective, at least I know of noone that has lost a car using one.
