Well, yeah. That's the point. To some people numbers matter. To some they don't. Different strokes, and all that. To someone looking for a an original car, a smog pump on a big block '69 vert is worth a couple grand. That's not good or bad, just a a fact.

Then you have to ask yourself if you want a "collector item" or a car you can drive and enjoy. What if that smog pump conks out (a common occurence for the bearings on them back then)? Your car is suddenly worth thousands LESS???? F-that!!!

Well, yeah. Once again, that's kinda the point. What somebody wants. If my smog pump conks out (I don't actually have one--still looking), I'll get it rebuilt. Meanwhile, it gives me a jolly to drive a car that will both rip the tires off the rims and has been put back, by me, to as close as I can get it to how it rolled out of the factory.
I don't see the problem. Whatever floats your boat, man. For some, HP is all that matters, for others, it's originality. Some folks likes taters, some folks likes beans. I likes both. :D
Re: Does your Vette have Matching Numbers? (reidry)
VIN matches the Title! That's all that is important to me.
:iagree: At the moment I don't want a numbers matching car. It would be PITA to think that can I replace this bolt or is it original... Of course it's really great to see those totally #'s matching cars, but it's not for me... :smash:
Re: Does your Vette have Matching Numbers? (Red Sting 70)
I have a 1978 Pace Car. Every number I have checked except the A.C. compressor is original. The compressor is a rebuilt unit. Engine, trans, alternatore, intake manifold, starter, exhasuts manifolds, etc. etc.

Well without the original AC compressor your car is obviously worthless and you should just rip out the engine and put a crate big block into it.

Hey Dep- My AC compressor is not original. Nor is my radiator, transmission, suspension, headers, radio, speakers, etc... should I get a 302?
BTW, all my numbers match except the numbers on my speedo. They seem to be slower than I'm actually going.
Re: Does your Vette have Matching Numbers? (Pacin'California)
Pacin: Unfortunately, the 302 is not an option for your car. Just roll down the windows and act like it's fast :)
Too bad you have one of the heavy slugs that are pretty much beyond help unless you invest in a MONSTER RAT MOTOR. The prized 302 will only work in cars that aren't lead sleds to start with.
Re: Does your Vette have Matching Numbers? (Red Sting 70)
 Even though my numbers match some idiot painted my car all black, so to get it back to original I need to repaint it. I've got all the decals and everything for it.
Oh by the way, Welcome to the forum
OOOOOOPS! Sorry about that, You been here longer than me by a long shot.
