I should have gotten the chrome ones mine are getting trashed. It seems like the Hawk brake pads make allot of dust and sticks to the rims really well. Then when I use rim cleaner that is made for un coated rims it gets most of the dust off but it makes the rim turn white. :banghead: Just spent 2 hours on the front 2 rims with mothers and an electric polisher and I'm not happy with it at all. (looks like crap) I am considering getting chrome tt2 or something else.
Any suggestions on chrome rims? or a good way to protect my current rims. I Don't have the time or patients to spend 4 hour's every few months on my wheels. :cry
Thanks for any info John
At a show last year I was finally able to see billet and chrome rims side by side. My choice is def chrome. This one guy said he uses trash bags to cover his billet rims when he washes his car and NEVER drives in the rain. Zoops makes some kind of coating for billet stuff that lasts like a year or more. Just polish your billet and apply this stuff and the shine is sposed to stay. I have no first-hand knowledge of this tho, just what I've heard here. Also, it's fairly pricey.
That sounds like a good product I think I will look into it. I would hate to sell my rims and buy the same thing in chrome and loose all that cash :( . Thanks for the info
I'm intrigued. I used these alloy wheels for several years with no problem at all. And no problem with whitening with a good polish. You didn't use that spray-on corrosive mag cleaner liquid I hope!!
Part of your problem is the Hawk brake pads, they contain high amounts of cast iron. The friction material in most ultra high performance pads like Hawk are highly metallic and the hot powder will burn it's way into the soft aluminum. The chrome TTII's would have greater imbedibilty resistance than the raw aluminum of the std wheels because of the higher melting point of chromium (aluminum is arund 1400 degrees.) I am having the same problems with my LT-1 and I don't have that many miles on my TTII's yet. There are other pads avaliable with better dust characteristics than the Hawk pads but, they dont perform as well.
Where can you get TTII in chrome. I thought they only came polished out.
After putting some polished rims on my truck I swore I would never put them on another car. I can't stand tring to keep them shinning.
If I can get TTII in chrome I think that will be the way I will go.
Thanks.
Yep I think you hit the nail right on the head Solid LT1. My TT'2 are only a few months old. I spent today and yesterday polishing them and they didn't come out that great. What sucks is if I look closely I can see little marks in the aluminum no dought its from what you explained with the hot dust eating into the rim. :banghead: And those hawk breaks work great I would hate to give theme up. I guess we are in the same boat and it looks like its sinking. Has anyone heard of those new ceramic pads? from what I understand they don't make much dust but I'm not sure if there available for our C3's. . I guess the best thing to do is go with chrome. Anyway thanks for the info

I don't remember where I got mine but what I did to find mine was I put (Tork Thrust II) in yahoo search and I found lots of them.
i dont think TT 2's come in full chrome...when i was looking for rims i was looking at them but i was told that they are chrome/aluminum...spokes being one and the outer rim being the other...cant remember which though..
thats why i went with the edelbrock, they are full chrome...
AR offered to have mine drop shipped to a chrome facility then shipped to my dealer for if I remember correctly 50 extra a rim plus 50 for shipping on all four rims. So for 250 I could have went chrome.. At the time I said no thanks but now I know otherwise. Why not find a chrome shop in the local area that you live in? Couldn't wouldn't that be cheaper than buying new rims...Especially since AR doesn't actually do the chrome work themselves??? Oh and  Dave
