Default Nose Emblems question

This question is for those of us who have the starburst type nose emblems...73-74...I believe they are supposed to be coated with some kind of enamel. I have gone through 2 of them so far. It seems that water from either washing the car or rain tends to eat the enamel away & the red plastic starburst stuff comes off leaving the chrome backing showing...is there a way to prevent this from happening? I really don't want to have to keep ordering nose emblems.

Where are you getting them from? I need to order one for mine, and I'd like to avoid this problem from happening to me.

Why not spray it with a clear, outdoor (UV proof) polyurethane type paint, like Helmsman. Did my fuel tank emblems when I replaced them and a year later, still nice and colorful.

I thought the starburst emblem was ugly so I replaced mine with a '72 crossed flags emblem. I know it's not original, but I like it more.
