Got'cha. I drive my '79 daily and can no longer go without a cup holder. I give up, I gotta have one. I really miss having one in the mornings, don't need it the rest of the day but I gotta have one in the morning. I have seen a few on the net for between $15 to $30 bucks. Anybody happy or unhappy with their choice of coffee cup holder? Which if any could you guys recommend? Thanks
Ive got the wood one from Mid America, have had it for sometime and would not be without it. It slips over the Emerg. Brake handle on my 79.............LT
I wanted one that slipped over the brake, but I didn't want woodgrain and didn't want to spend $20 to paint over it anyhow, so I made one. I copied the design of the wood one; excpet made it slightly smaller. Isued computer plastic 3" cable feed holes to trim the wood nicely. For the piece that fits over the brake I used a plastic paper clip holder with the end cut off and finished. After assembly a pianted a semi-sheen black wetsanded smooth, mulitple coats. For a final touch I ordered a 25th anniversay pin and cut off the pin part and glues in the center of theholder. I spent right around the same amount, but I have on that looks like it was designed for my car and matches beautifully. I have had some folks suggest I make these, but to make it worthwhile I would have to charge a little more than the ones already sold.
OK - I don't like the slip-on cupholders.
I have a big cup. (the kind you drink from). :jester
Here is my idea:
First, find a small articulated arm that is used to mount cell phones to the
floor (center hump) of cars.
Find a stainless steel cylinder with a bottom - suitable to hold your cup without spilling or tipping under heavy Gs.
Mount the cylinder to one end of the arm and mount the base of the arm on
the side of the tranny tunnel - in front of the passenger seat.
It can be adjusted in angle, height, and location.
Done.
Go to a marine supply house and get one of those gimbal-mounted cupholders! :yesnod:
However, comma, it seems somewhat sacreligious to have cupholders in a C3. Just ask the Germans -- they still think we're NUTS for having cupholders in our vehicles. Something about getting in the way of driving. Then again, in S. Calif (and other parts of the country), driving is more a matter of sitting in traffic...
:D
I like the one I purchased from Ecklers. It mounts to the emegency brake counsel using the original holes. It has a center ring that can be removed to accomodate a coffee cup.
And I thought a cup holder was one of those things that mount on the wall in my garage to hold the cup of parts. You mean they have them to put in the car to hold the screws from the dash when ya take it apart?
My parents' Volvo has an unholy amoun of cup holders, 2 flips out ones in the center console and 2 (per side!) in the door-panel "bins."
I have one of those cheapo plastic things that slips in next to the seat. If you have a really nice interior you might not want to do that, but it works well for me temporarily. It even fits those 64oz fountain drinks I am fond of :D
A real world answer - yes, I drink coffee my CAR - which happens to be a Vette.
Don't get the one that slips over the brake handle. Get the one that screws onto the whatevertheplasticpartiscalled. You can't use the parking brake when the cups are attached to it.
But I am pushing 200K miles on my car that I drive and drink in, so what do I know.
If your car sits on a trailer, why would you need a cupholder?

Now this is a great idea! It will not only hold your drink, but you can use it as an instrument to know how fast you are accelerating! The drink straight back would indicate extremely good traction and performance, anything less it's back to the drawing board.
Seriously, I have been thinking about one as well, mainly for the road trip to Bowling Green and the CI-5 (that is if registration ever gets going). Being a bit of a woodworker I will probably fabricate one of my own design.
........You can't use the parking brake when the cups are attached to it.....
Come on now Larry, you're joking right? You actually use the parking brake enough that you would worry about something like this? Unless I park on a hill, which is rarely, I don't even bother.....
Besides with a 4-speed, I'm too busy to be eating or drinking while driving.... :auto:
Thank you to all the daily corvette drivers for your replies. I knew I'd take some hits for wanting a to put a cup holder in my car. I know it all in good fun, and my cup holder will spend most of it's time in the garage, on the wall. The other mod I already made is a pretty blonde in the passenger seat. She loves the car, I'm a happy man. I know I know, some of you like red heads. To each his own.
I have the cup holder that fits over the e-brake handle. Works great!
The e-brake can still be used as long as there is no cup in it.
Easy to install or remove. I had to trim the inside to make it fit properly.
I never have anything but water in the cup in case it should spill.
