I was told that there were kits available to make C3 doors open like those on Lamborgini's and that some people on the forum have installed them. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone with to see what they think of them plus where they may be purchased.
eeuuwww.. do you mean the new style lambo doors that tilt foward on the hing point or the old style ones like gullwings? The last oens are not possible because of the lack of structural members around the windshield, the first ... eeuuww :( I've seen some ricer kits for that kind of setup, I hate it and I don't think anyone here has it.
I think it is very possible to mount them... seeing how the hinge rests on the main part of the bird cage. There may be an issue with clearance on the door to the fenders... I do know the door moves out first then swings up...
Also something to keep in mind... the Covette doors are pretty heavy. A lot heavier than a Honda door. Hell I could shot put a Honda door... hee hee
Good luck with this trick mechanism... It is your car... DO WHAT YOU WANT...
I just saw one of those kits installed on a Honda Civic on the MTV series "Pimp My Ride" for what it is worth. I can't imagine doing that to a Vette but then again I wouldn't have done what they did tho that Civic either. Not everyone is blessed with good taste. Who knows, maybe the door kit in question might be cool on a Vette but I have yet to hear of anyone on the forum doing this install.
I think it'd be  . I haven't seen them on a C3, but I would definitely consider getting a set if there were such an animal. Think it would make it a pain to get in and out of the car though.
I guess I have to wonder why? It's so cool to open a door ? I don't know about you but I spend a lot more time driving the car than I do opening and closing the doors.
Too bad there isn't a poll, because I'd vote for :U
Opinions aside, I sincerely doubt these kits could support a C3 door. As mentioned, doors on older cars are much heavier than modern vehicles (the late-model C3's with side impact beams are especially heavy -- thank goodness).
Personally, I'd rather spend a couple of grand on a tranny, or perhaps a Steeroids conversion (no wait, I already did those). Okay, then the $$$ would go a long way towards a ZZ4! :D

:nono: Oh lord, not this again! If Bill Mitchell intended the C3 to have scissors doors he would have put them there. The car's design is perfect. Why screw it up? I don't understand spending big money on novelty modifications that diminish the car's overall value. I think I'd be putting the $$ into improving the car's performance where it's needed.

Re: Lamborgini style doors (warhovs)
1.) who the F cares about overall value. Its your car do what you want. If fancy shmancy doors are your kick cool.
2.) Sometimes when I park in the shoot parking spaces that are just big enough to get your car in, with the doors closed, I wish I had scissor style doors. Just a thought.

If Bill Mitchell intended the C3 to have improved performance over the stock version, he would have made it so.
If Bill Mitchell intended the C3 to have bigger tires then stock, he would have made it so
If Bill Mitchell intended the C3 to have an overdrive, then he would have made it so.
Please people, do not mod your c3's.. Bill Mitchell did not intend for those mods and it is just ruining his perfect machine.
I think on a completely tricked out car, perhaps something as radical as Merlin's old jalopy, it would look pretty sweet. On a car that is anything less than maxed out in every other department, it's just major Bubba. Suicide doors? No way, I just don't think it'd fit the look of the car at all.
Guru, the guy that started this thread asked what others thought of the Lambo style doors. Why flame those who think they stink? BTW, when I worked in the Five Sided Puzzle Palace I didn't have the time to post forum emails at the amazing pace you've established. Just in jest, Guru!!! I'm actually in awe of your stamina.
