Looking for success stories with upgrading the stock ETR radio in my '82 CE to something that will LOOK like it belongs in the stock location and mount, but SOUNDS like in belongs in a C5 and will play CD's. I'm not looking for a high end unit with a remote disc changer and all that-just a good stereo with moderate power and ability to hold say 3-5 Cd's. Would like advice on speakers that will fit under the stock grills as well. I don't know whether my stock ETR radio just has **** poor sensitivity or the power antenna is *toast*, but even the strongest stations locally will have fade on the original radio.
Oh, how the heck do you set the clock on the ETR Radio? The owners manual says to " see the radio manual" which I ain't got!
If I could get out with a recommendation for a currently produced radio and speakers for say $600 or less, I'd be thrilled. Doesn't need a removable faceplate and all that junk- I don't take my eye off the car.
If I am not mistaken, on this one when it is turned off the face spins around and it is just black with no buttons or *****. When in use i think the silver ***** look very cool and appropriate for an older car.
Plus the added bennitfit of having MP3 and XM capibillity is nice. one CD-R can hold 12 albums worth of MP3s
But you will need to cut the console. I don't know if I would do that to an 82CE.
I have a completely hidden stereo. The factory HU is just for looks, and provides 12V to switch on the real system. It sound amazing, but was a real pita to install and was VERY expensive!
IMO, Pioneer Stuff is the best for your buck. I bet they got some speakers that will fit behind the stock grills. I don't think they have any HUs that will have the look you want, but they make damn nice ones.
