My engine has less than 2,000 miles on it. Over the weekend I pulled some plugs and noticed oil wet threads. The valve covers don't seem to be leaking so it isn't from that source. The plugs themselves and the insulators aren't oil covered so I am guessing they are not from leaky valve seats (or could the oil just be burning off the plug?). My initial guess is oil coming up from the rings. BUT - I checked three plugs and all are equally oil covered on the threads only, so I assume all 8 plugs are equally oil covered. I would expect this to be a problem just for the plugs with the leaky rings, could all rings be leaking?
How serious is this problem? The oil was changed at 500 miles and the oil level is still high. I don't notice any tell tale smoke coming out of the exhaust. The rings are molly, pistons are forged flat tops, the engine has high compression. Does the engine just need to break in more? Do the rings still need to seat?
