Default RANT about brake lines

What did they use for nuts on the OEM brake lines.....Playdoh? I've had to cut every single line so far....the nuts just round right off. @#$*(@&$(@

A nice simple (replace one hose up front) has turned into a huge job. Now if I have to replace the distribution blocks up front AND in back....I'll be an even unhappier camper.

That's why I always use visegrips, it may sound bubba and the flare nuts may get beaten up a bit but I get them loose and I get em tight.

Never tried it, but heard of the idea here to put the line wrench on the nut, then vise grips on the line wrench - then turn the nut.

Flare wrenches will do the same, these flare nuts are such soft metal that unless they are brand spanking new you will round them off. I have a whole set of flare wrenches, both metric and SAE and the only thing they do is take up room in the drawe

ONce again.....TT is totally correct, .....

ME, I take about 3-4 taps with my trusty CP711 impact chisel, just enough to rattle it's teeth, but NOT take it apart....

Well yeah, he's right about the brand spankin' new part. My experience is anyone has bunged them up the least little bit in that past with a box end, then a flare wrence will most likely do the same. But if they're good 'n clean, then a flare will usually do the trick.

Vise Grips are the way to go

grip very hard on the flat front part of jaw

they will come off......and go back together the same way.

I like either teflon tape on the threads or anti-sieze on the threads and ouside of the flare cone when you assemble them. It seems to make service a little easier later.
