Paul: Excellent! I know it's a bit of a project, but not impossible for me to do. On welding that tab while the engine is out...it certainly would be a lot easier. Heck...I now climb inside my engine compartment and sit on the steering linkage or crossmember to work on things
But how did you figure out where to locate that tab without the hole on the engine as a reference point??? It sure would be easier to weld without the engine installed. I'll be doing that solder thing with the purple wires too
John: I dunno if I can use the '80 bracket on my car, but I'll sure look into it. Bolt on would be preferable to weld on any day
How do you like the Super T-10? Is it pretty heavy duty? Better than a Muncie?
Dep
The car had the stock 80 motor in it so there wasnt much in front of the T10, but yes I did like the BW over the muncie in my 65. Sounds like ya made a lot of progress on the conversion. Time to enjoy it now.
I am doing a "combo" job of new T&T steering column and auto-to-stick conversion, so the column had to come out anyway. Weirdest thing for me was the 4 bolts in the cowl for the pedals. Took me a little while to figure out exactly where they were . I now have the assembly manual which makes things a LOT easier to understand. I had power brakes, but I am switching to manual brakes. That will be one of the last things I do, though. Crossmember came out with only the slight hassle of the emergency brake cable and one horizontal bolt on driver's side of crossmember that was kinda hard to get at. I will also be able to use existing crossmember and driveshaft, although I think I am gonna toss the driveshaft for a 3 inch version that has 1350 u-joints front and back. Crossmember needs to have two homemade angle brackets installed for the original trans mount. No biggie. I will be using (tentatively) a T-101 transmission, which is a ultra heavy duty T-10 originally made for NASCAR use. http://www.texracing.com/t101.htm
Bellhousing will be Lakewood. Not sure on clutch setup yet but it will be mechanical.
Trans tunnel will no doubt have to be cut, but I'm not using a console, so that's no biggie.
Just bolted the pedals in. Progress at last!!! Was kinda tricky doing it alone. I propped the bracket up with a long socket extension and then put the grade 8 bolts in. Fit perfect!!!
