Hi all, this is my first post and I don't own a corvette, however, I will in the near future. My wife's father (deceased) owned a 71 convertable and I have finnaly tracked it down to the guy who has it now, about 450 miles away. I'm planning on taking a trip next month to check it out. My wife advised she could remember the car as having side pipes. The guy who has it now said he removed them. My question is, did the 71 come with the option of side pipes or were they after market. My intention is to restore it and I want to get it right. I was unable to find where they (pipes) were an option for that year in any documents I've been able to locate. Also if they were an option were they available only with a certain engine config. The current owner advised it had a 350 in it. I did'nt go into to many questions and answers with the guy as I plan to get alot of info from the vehicle when I visit. Thanks for any help.
The only c3 that had an option for factory sidepipes was the 69. Many people have added hooker headers or some other brand since the frame attachment for sidepipes is on all c3s.
If you do strike a deal make sure and get the pipes too. Assuming your wife remembers the pipes they may be an early mod to the car and be factory peices he bought and put on a long time ago. If that's the case even if you don't put them back on they could be worth big $$ (depending on condition) that you could use for any other restoration parts the car may need. I'd put them back on car though.
