Default interior question

I noticed some things in this pic that are identical to my car...the first of which is where the lower panels meet the center console, the little tabs jut out...can that be fixed?

Also, his cross flags are very nicely painted in the center console (under the shifter), is that something that can be done, or do you just buy a new one?

I had the fake wood sticker on mine, hated it, so I brought the whole thing down to chrome, it looks kind of cool that way, but I would like the flags to look good.

finally, when I took this panel off, I noticed 2 toggle switches...any body have ANY idea what they could be for?

Never seen that type of center console before, but I haven't had too much experience with different C3's. All I can tell you is that it's not stock for a 73. Might be aftermarket?

Those side trim panels are annoying. If I remember right, there's about three thread holes that have to line up for one screw - one for the the center console brace, one for the the lower panel, and one for something else. That squeezes everything together so when you install the side trim panel it doesn't bow out in the middle like that.

actually, I think that may be the center panel for a 68! Since there is no engine badge.

any other tips on making those little tabs not bow out, are appreciated...I will try the screw thing though...I have noticed I am missing a bunch of the metal tabs they are supposed to screw into, so the screws are just biting into, well, not much

You can buy those little spring-loaded fasteners at any auto parts place. They're inexpensive and handy to have around.

The car in the photo is a 68. That is a 68 only non-air shift plate. It should fit 68-76 but there are differences 68, 69, 70-71, 72-76.

forest through the trees huh?

I have a follow up question...I noticed there are no little metal thingies for the screws to go in from the center gauge console to the drivers side & passenger side dash panels (not the right word for it, but I think you get the idea) They screw right into plastic...problem is, those plastic holes are stretched out more than a (insert your own reference here)

How do you guys repair this? My initial thought is fill the holes with epoxy, drill a small hole, then put the screws back in.

You could epoxy a speed nut (stamped metal nut) to the back of the plastic. That would give you a stronger piece to screw into & less likely to get stripped again.

You could drill the stripped hole out a little bit and put a small plastic drywall molly in there (just trim the length back somewhat to fit) that will work out ok.

Default toggle switch

Could it be attached to an alarm system?

the more I am thinking about it, I kind of think it may have been a poor mans neutral switch and a back up light switch...I need to look at a wiring diagram!

I peeled back the vinyl on my 69 dash pads and noticed there were just little plastic insert nuts in there for the screws. I wish I could have taken a picture of them for you. They are junk...and if your stock dash is like mine, yours are trashed as well.

The "ears" alongside of the center console are from those tabs on the lower dashpad being broken. You can't see the break until you take the lower dash off...then you can see the break in the fiberglass on the backside. The vinyl covering is still tight and it pulls the "ears" out.

I hope someone chimes in with one. I took my old lower dash panels off, epoxied the broken **** back on, let them set, and they still pulled away from the console when I put them back in.

It's too bad too, because other than the "ears" they were nice dash panels.
