I did not know about the wave until I read about it online. I wave all the time, but most of the time they don't wave back. I think most people that don't wave just don't know.

Its just a different type of vehicle. I don't wave to other Toyota Tacoma owners when I see them in my truck but I wave to C3's (and any other Vettes too).
You know I have to agree...I went over to the Southwest form a few weeks back they had a topic... Arizona needs a hooters night..I said Hello and introduced myself....only 1 person said hello back..and guess what, he was a C3 owner...Desertdaug...I noticed most of them were C5 owners...I guess they were to busy telling each other what big shots they were..to say hello..

I wave like a dang fool, and if I don't, the co-pilot is to wave till they lose a hand. I'm almost tempted to get a windshield banner for http://www.savethewave.net/ , if only that site was laid out a bit better (Note to webmaster of that site: Explain first, sell second). The guy in the C5 may be unfamiliar with the wave, or may not give enough of a damn, but soon enough more C5's will be owned by true enthusiasts, and we'll start seeing more waves from them (and griping on internet forums about C6 drivers not waving...).

By the way, anyone reading this who is not familiar with the wave concept, check this out ---> http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/history/wave.html

They don't wave for the same reason somebody driving a 97 Ford Thunderbird doesn't wave at a '59 T-Bird.

They have very little in common.

p.s. Sorry for the Ford reference, go

Yup -
"Corvette people" - care more about the 'vette.

or the loser

"People with corvette" - care more about themselves.

I wave even when not in the vette (which is always).
Not too many wave back to my Buick with NHVETTE plate,
but one guy did - trailering a '69 and a C4.

Guys - let's not disrespect the C5, please.
I saw the C5 as a return of Stingray spirit.
The C4s were OK, but they lost the flowing curves that make
the C3s appealing. The C5 brought back subtle features that
hint at it's ancestry. The front fender crests up in the middle
like ours. The nose was made less squared off - more pointed
like ours. The back end (albeit big) was given the swept back
edge - similar to chrome bumpered C3s. Unfortunately, the car
buyers that purchase them have very little in common with us.

That said - keep waving and disregard the non-wavers.
Someday, they will get it.

Hey, that's really cool. I did not know there was a "Wave " tradition. I guess I'm just caught up in the "I can't believe how lucky I am to be driving a Corvette and you are too isn't that cool idea" If they don't feel that way, it's their loss. I'm feeling good and waving

I think alot of C5 drivers don't wave. not because they think they're too good, but because Every C1-C3 driver bought his Vette 'cause it's a Corvette! While alot of the C5 owners bought thier vettes 'cause it's a Fast car :-D

As far as me, not only did I wave I always rolled down my window, and complemented the driver even in my firebird

thanks dave and the few others. i'm about to put the verbal smack down on those of you stereotyping all c5 owners or bagging on the c5 itself. talking about certain corvette drivers is one thing, lumping all drivers of a certain vintage into a vast stereotype is another completely different thing.
i've been dis'ed by other c5 owners in my c5 AS WELL AS some c3 and c4 owners. (let's face it, we don't see many c1 and c2s on the road anymore and c3s are getting that way fast) it's a much better bet these drivers are either unfamiliar with tradition or just oblivious idiots. i fear the latter is the most likely as apparently idiocy is not bound by financial ability.
so if you want to stereotype all c5 drivers or start talking smack about the c5, you need to take a chill. your talking to me, too.

Yes they do. I have a C3 and a C5. I wave at fellow Vette drivers no matter which car I'm driving or what model they're driving, and I almost always see a freindly wave back

I wave at everyone in a Vette, regardless of model, if I see them. I'm certain I've had a few people that thought I was probably a snob also. However, like you, I've had many that didn't wave back. I figured they must not have seen me...nothing personal.

That's my point - I don't intend to sell either my 1985 or my 2003 until I and my wife are incapable of driving them anymore. I must be one of those rare C5 guys with a hobby.

I think we need to split off a "C5 drivers don't wave" section of the forum.

I bought my "project" three months ago and therefor have many months of work before it's road worhty. I want to jump up and down and wave anytime I see another corvette on the road.

However, I refrain, because the other driver will probably think, "What the "bleep" is wrong with the guy in the Blazer?"
