We just got at Custom Auto Sound USA 6 and 10 disk CD Changer. We have the radio in and working and wondered where people have mounted the CD Changer so you can still put the T-tops in the car. If you have a picture it would be good.
I'm going to mount mine in the glove box. It will be mounted in such a way as when you lift the door, it will come up as well. At least that is where I think it's going, unless a better spot comes to mind.
I have 78 and install my CD changer in the jack storage box. It is put in vertical and you load the deck from the top. I left enough slack in the cable so the Cd player could be pulled out and get to the jack.
Why, in your living room. That way, when you go out for a cruise, you can listen to the V8 rumble. I spent big bucks having my original radio in the 72 rebuilt and the only time I listen to it is in the drive-in restaurant. I love the sound of the solid lifters and the V8 rumble way too much to listen to even great rock and roll.
I don’t disagree, but for those times when traffic is at a crawl and you just have to sit and keep your cool its good to be able to have an option when the engine is just idling. But out on the road with tops off it is not much use. Unfortunately about ½ the time seams to be in traffic.
I have a 6 disc changer mounted on top of the battery box lid.
T-tops still fit back there and it's easy to get at the changer, just fold seat forward. I keep a black hand towel over it and it blends with the carpet and it's not noticable at all. I put new speakers in the back that can handle the new system and even at 70mph with tops off I can hear the music just fine.
I have no heater core or any of that stuff in my Vette. So I had plenty of room to mount the CD Changer (vertically) behind the dash on the passenger side. It can not be seen, when the button is pressed to release the magazine it comes out the bottom of the changer.
I have a 6 disk Pioneer which I was able to mount on an angle with velcro on the brackets in the compartment above the jack. The lid will close and I can put the cartridge in simply by lifting the lid. If I am ever judged I can remove it and stash the wires.
Stuck a piece of plywood back there and mounted the changer veritcally on the driver's side. Also had space to mount a fire extinguisher and the tops still fit back there, but it's a tight squeeze.
