Default I have a Windshield replacement question

I had the windshield replaceed on my 69 last week here at the house. I was looking at it last night and noticed that there is a 1/4 inch gap around all the trim (top and both sides). I contacted the installer today and was told that was due to the new type sealent they are required to use. I watched them install it and there seemed to be a good solid bead layed down but I'm thinking they did not put enough down to bring the windshield flush with the trim. Anyone had this problem?

I replaced mine in my 75 by myself & used that crap like caulk instead of the rope stuff & mine too has a gap between trim & windshield. Don't know if the rope stuff is even avaible. I was stationed in Japan when my windshield got broke by a trap door flying off the roof to our apt during a typhoon. The shops there wanted $500 to do it. So I took my free plane ride to California & bought one for like $150, boxed it myself & brought it back on the plane with me !!!!!

I was told that the orginal stuff was called Butyrate (or something like that) and was no longer used due to it not being able to hold the windshield in the car in the event of a crash (that has Ralph Nader all over it).

I'm about to do the same with my '70 coupe. The installer I'm using comes highly recomended and will not do the Corvette windshield in my gagage. I have to bring to his shop. It has something to do with the A pillar and windshield frame is structual and will flex. The cauking has to be done right to avoid leaks due to the movement. Also can cause the windshield to crack.
Careful!
