Default H Pipe Installed

I had been reading a bunch of the posts regarding the h pipe and finally had one put on this past Friday. I have the Mid America chambered exhaust on my '74 and what a difference installing the h pipe made. I liked the sound of the chambered pipes, but the low resonance while traveling at low speed made it almost unbearable. Now that the h pipe is installed the sound is awesome all around. I can actually hear the radio again, and the annoying "brap" sound is gone. It now has a nice throaty performance sound.

Thanks to everyone that suggested the h pipe.

I would like to see some pictures as well. I have a 75 with the same set-up and have thought about the H-pipe. So, it does get rid of the annoying resonance? More details please!!

I wish I would have taken some pictures while it was on the lift at the muffler shop. I will see if can get a shot of it now that it is on the ground again, but I am not sure if you will be able to get much of a view of it.

The guys at the muffler shop actually told me that they did not think it would do much, if anything regarding the sound, but for $35 including the pipe and labor, I figured I had nothing to lose. After about 1/2 block down the road, I called the muffler shop to let them know what a huge difference the h pipe made. Prior to the h pipe the exhaust had a kind of cackle or brap to it, and at low speeds the resonance would actually vibrate the grilles on the rear deck. I am still amazed what a difference the h pipe made.

If you are looking for a picture in the meantime do a quick search for h pipe and sort by heading vs, in text. There is a picture of an h pipe already out there. The one in the picture has a flanged joint that can be undbolted in the middle. The one I had done was simply welded in but was placed in the same location just beyond where the pipes cross through the framerail prior to the chambered sections.

It is also called a balance pipe, helps flow & power. Helps w/ noise too.
