Default Still Leaking Oil...

I know this topic is getting tired. I still have an oil leak near the dipstick on my 468. I ended up rtving the tube into the the pan, and let it cure for a day. I started it up and watched it leak from behind where the triangle shaped tube mounting plate is tack welded onto the pan. The oil is not coming from above the dipstick. While it is running at 2000 RPM I can see a steady stream slowly appear from below the plate, right around where the tack weld.

Has anyone else had this problem? I've never had more leakage problems than I've had with this engine. I'm about ready to throw it in a lake and start over.

With Carlisle 3 days away, I don't wan't to drive this thing up there with it leaking like this. I'm going to RTV the snot out of where it looks like the oil is coming from, hopefully that will bubba everything up enough for me to make it to Carlisle and back.

It looks like the tack weld that's leaking, and I'm really getting less fond of this Milodon pan as time goes on. I've NEVER had problems sealing an engine like this, not until this one.

I guess this post is half rant half question, but in any case, I need to vent this.

If the sealant doesn't work might try some JB Weld or the like.

Had a very bad experience with a Milodon pan on my 71. Found that hitting the brakes hard would send the oil pressure to zero! I was furious and made summit give me a full refund. Went and got a GM pan and no more problems.

As a side note, I compared the Milidon pan I have with the stock pan that came on my cheapo LM1 350 and the GM pan has a more complete windage tray, it extends back around the pump. Maybe I need to re-think which pan I am going to use.

I sealed it with RTV yesterday afternoon, and drove it to work this morning. Looks like the oil seeped through the RTV.

This is all moot, as when I got to work, I started hearing what sounds like a rod lnock.

I can't win.

Looks like I need to get on the phone with AR Racing.....

RTV will not work very well at all (but you know that by now).

To fix it good, the area needs to be SPOTLESS (and free of paint). Then stick some JB Weld on there.

Me too. With my exhaust being so loud it's kind of hard to tell.

Mark the hole and drain the oil, sand around the area a bit and then smear some Peramatex # 2 around the area, it worked for me

You can never post a question too much if you can't get an answer you like Steve. IMHO thats what the forum is really for, to find tech or parts assistance.
Now a steady stream of oil @ 2000 rpm sounds more like a pin hole leak in a pressurized part of the block. That dipstick tube should only see splash unless the crank is wipping the oil at that location. And really an operating PCV sys should keep some negative pressure on the pan and seals. I would double check that oil filter wasn't on crook'ed from an old seal stuck on block. Maybe tape on some white rags to veritfy source location. And if a double check proves that dipstick tube really squirtes oil I would suspect the PVC isn't working enough to provide a neg crankcase pressure.
Happy hunting and keep posting. cardo0
