Default NAPA brake pads

My 73 needs new pads. I want to get the best but don't want something so hard that the rotors wear out fast. Napa makes three different compositions, labeled good, better and best (not too helpful). Who knows the pros and cons of each? Thanks, Joe

I went with the VBP organic pads. I'd guess they're equal to "good." They don't wear the rotors much, they don't squeal...and they work just fine for everyday driving.

If you're into autocrossing or whatever, consider semi-metallic pads.

For a good street pad I like Raybestos brutestop (pep boys has them, for instance). No squeling, low dust and stop fairly well. Not something to go roadracing with, but fine for the street. If you want a more serious pad it's hard to beat Hawk, but be prepared for squels, dust, and rotor wear.

Joe, I found and bought some AC Delco pads that are fully asbestos - same as what came stock (I think?) - no metal in pad material. I put these on the rear calipers. I wanted a little more stopping power up front and used what I got from Vans Steel if I recall right - I could visually see metal in the pad material and trust the pads are good quality. I figure the front rotors are the easiest to replace and can use/need the most stopping grip (rear rotors would be expensive). And with power brakes the 4 disks should get the job done on a light car like a vette.
Good luck. cardo0

Kinda doubt you found asbestos pads unless they've been on a shelf collecting dust for a few decades????

Read all your warning labels on brakes and clutches. I think the politicaly correct term is organic.

Are you sure organic pads are asbestos? I thought that it was outlawed a while ago because of its lung problems.

Asbestos... it's tasty!
I'm sure they were organic. Maybe they were Raybestos brand pads.

I went to napaonline to get the number and having worked there for 5 years. I would recommend
United pads # AE 727 same number for rear
parking brake # AE10741PB
The Safety stop pads are also pretty good pads # SS727
I think you would be happy with either one.
The true stops are for something you don't plan on keeping.

Use BENDIX and NOT Napa.

Asbestos has not been used in brake pads for quite a while.....for obvious reasons. It was also used in most clutches until they discovered that "whoops....asbestos will kill you"

I use wagner organic pads. They are great for the rotors and other then auto cross work well on the street. I use the top of the line wagner pads and they are about $40 per end.
