When disassembling my stock L48 in my 76, I noticed 2 "fuel lines" between the tank and mechanical fuel pump. The new Edelbrock pump has only one in and one out. I am confused, one line is smaller than the other. Any ideas???? what about hookup to the new pump? Thanks for any advice.
The smaller line is a fuel return line and was connected to the fuel filter. The larger line is the supply line that you will connect to the fuel pump. I don't have the original setup and have just capped the return line where the original flex line went to the filter.

The smaller line, as stated above, is a fuel return line. It is used with a fuel pump using a return line provision - it does not come off the filter except in '68 and '69 if I remember right. The mid-70s cars ran the return line directly off the pump.
It's a very good idea to use a pump that has the return line provision. The use of a return line greatly reduces vapor lock tendencies and supplies cooler fuel to the carb. If you have the line there, I suggest you use it. If you don't want to use the correct pump for your car, run a return line from the carb inlet down to the return line. This will circulate cool fuel right up to the carb at all times - a big benefit.
