Hey guys im rebuilding my engine in my 1980 vette. Im going to put new heads on the block. I think i have decided to go with the GM perfromance parts vortec cylinder heads(cast iron vortec ZZ5). they have 64cc chambers, 170cc intake runners. 1.379 in diamter valve spring for .555 in lift cam. 1.94 in. intake/ 1.50 in. exhuast valves. and screw in rocker studs. and i picked out the edelbrock performer vortec intake manifold. the rpm range is only up to 5,500. I dont know what cam to get with this setup and was wondering if you guys could point me in teh right direction with a cam, carb, and what i need to do with the bottm end as well, im doing everything on this engine. i will also be using roller rockers. im looking to get between 350-400 hp hopefully and with the vette weighting in at around 3100 lbs hope to run under 14 second quater miles. so any help would be greatly apprecited on waht cam, carb, and everything else i need for this setup and if this is a good setup for street/strip and if i can get good hp with it. thanks!
Do you have an automatic? What are your rear gears? How radical of a cam do you want? Something like a Comp XE262 or XE268 would be a good choice depending on your setup. The 262 should put you near 350hp. You can rebuild your existing carb if it's a Q-jet or you will want at least a Holley 650. I would go with hypereutectic pistons. Everything else on the bottom end should be fine with the standard performance rebuild treatment.
I have a 4-speed...the rear end is a Dana 307 positrack. and im going for the vortec ZZ5 heads. just want a intake that has more than 5,500 rpm. i want to race this car so i need good enough parts so they dont end up breaking...
and would the stock crank take the power if i want close to 400hp or would i have to go with a new crank and also i plan on adding NOS to it eventually...
