So it finally happens to me...
driving down the interstate at about 70mph...notice a LITTLE bit of shimmy at about 70...but not to worry, just adjusted the shocks, figured they were settling in...about 20sec later...whap-whap-whap...fiberglass spraying everywhere as my passenger front wheelwell and nose shred...
Pull over...
...cry...
...inspect the damage...
...wheel still fully inflated...just missing the tread...
Don't know how old the tires are (rechecked tire info...no warnings on age...just tread depth and inflation, which were great)...but it doesn't seem like this should happen with my Goodyear Eagles...anybody have the same experience?...any luck getting help from Goodyear?
Haven't had it hapden to me but I've seen it many times. The tire may be covered by Road Hazard, but It may be hard prove if the tires have road hazard on them or not, but if you didn't by the tires, this won't help you anyway. Usually tire company only pays for the new tire, sometimes givs you a dicount based on the tires mileage. You will probably have to pay for body damage.
There's a date code on one side of the tire. Usually the blackwall side. First two digits are the week of manufacture and the last digit is the year. So "403" would be week 40, 2003. Or week 40, 1993, etc. If the tire was only a few years old I'd talk to Goodyear. If it was 20 years old... well.
