Default Tire Sizes

Does anyone run 235/60-R15s. I have had 255s on my 70 conv for many years but now that I've redone my suspension the left front rubs slightly on the inner left flair and the rear tires have also been awfully close. I guess I could go down to a 245 but I'm sure 235s would eliminate my problems altogether. My question is whether they would look too skinny after having 255s so long. There are also a lot more choices with 235s. I'd like to keep 60 aspect tires on the car. Any thoughts?

I have the same problem. at full lock I get some rubbing, not a big deal but passangers give you the....WHAT WAS THAT!! I was debating on going with 235/60's on front when I finish burning off the rears but like you I like the fat meats under the fender. I have not seen any 235's up close so I cant say for sure but we are only talking about 20mm...less than an inch so I dont think it will make that much difference.

I have 235's on a 71. The side profile is nearly the same as the F70's that came from the factory, so the look of the car is more classic musclecar with them. They will look skinny to you for a while because you are used to the look of the 255's.
Absolutely no rubs on the front lock to lock even at heavy cornering (autox) with stock rally rims.

Well I can tell you I have 225/60's on my '79.

They look pretty small, but not that bad as I have the front dropped pretty low and the rear is low because of a bad spring... I would have liked to go wider but my tire choices at my dad's shop were pretty slim.

I did get them at cost so I don't feel too bad about the skinny tires. $242 for all four mounted and balanced. Soon they will be replaced with 18" wheels and tires. Had I known I could get them so cheap I would have saved a little money and gotten the 18's the first time!

The 235's up front and 255's in the rear would look great IMHO.

Cheers!

I have 235's. I think they look small. They are wide enough but too short. I am unsure if I want 245's or 255's when I replace them next year. Many people have no problems with 255's, but yesterday I saw a picture of someone's with 255's on TT2 wheels and they looked oversized. How does your car look now? Joe

I also used to run 235's up front and 255's in the rear. Looked really good.

I agree with joe73vette, no rubbing problems but 235s aren't tall enough. At least not for all the way around. I replaced 235s with 225/70 about 6 month ago and have been pleased. If you want something wider, I'd think about 245s. I think 255s are to wide for the front.
