Rearend noise
I had a howling noise frome my 78 vette rearend at 50 miles and hr when you let your foot off the throttle.I took it to a garage they test drove it and said the crown and pin wear.So I bought a new crown and pin gear had the rearend rebuilt by a corvette garage took it out for a test drive same noise.The garage said that all corvette rearends make some noise and that you are sitting right over top of it .Their is no noise when you have your foot on the throttle.The only change I made was to go from 3.08 to 3.36 gears?

VS is correct. Setting up gears is somewhat of an art. Anyone can install gears. Setting up the shims to make it quiet is another matter. On yours either the pinion depth or the backlash is wrong. I never had any luck with richmond. Genuine GM gears are by far the easiest to setup. Motive gears buys GM surplus and you often find GM gears in motive boxes for 1/2 the price compared to getting it from a GM dealer.

There should be no noise as the others said. Gm or US Gear 336's will not howl nor will 370 or 373's. I would look at the repair work order to see exactly what was done. Did you notice much of a change between the 308 and 336's? Maybe 300 rpm difference( winds a little higher)
