Default First official shake-down run.

Just got back from my first official venture out of my driveway with my rebuilt 454 & M-22. I got the brakes bled today (alone as always) and took her down the street to fill up the tank.

I got a sputter starting at 2500+... may be the plugs fouled due to the excessive idling, could be the carb needs tuned too. Any other ideas? Also got some backfiring thru the exhaust during a down-shift. Maybe carb running too rich.

Oil pressure--- @2500rpm 35psi

temp---- fans held the temp @<195

ammeter +10

It ran pretty good and I surprised myself that it would run this good with me doing all the assembly from the ground up.

I'm just estatic that I got all this done before the snow flies soon. My original plan was to just have the engine swap completed and not necessarily road worthy. I really can't do much in the winter around here...my garage is too cluttered with my wife's crap and too cold.

Congrats Len. That is the news we have been waiting on. So now are you gonna take it out for a nice Sunday cruise today? I believe I would have to make some miles dissappear, just to make sure that everything is alright. Wink, Wink.

Congrats!! Good feeling knowing you did it all. Your carb probably does need a tune. But get rid of that 3310 and put one of your DPs on it. Also, spend about $40 and get an O2 sensor welded in your header collector. It's really the best way to tune a carb...any other way is just guessing.

Thanks guys, I'm gonna re check the valve lash now. Seems a little loose. 0.030?? I had it set at 0.026 when I built her.

Cam spec's said to start loose & re-tighten to 0.022.

Congratulations!! Sounds like you're about two weekends (by my work schedule) from a full-on drive! I'm excited for you and always look for your updates. I'll miss them when you're finally "done".

Actually we went for a little longer run later yesterday. About 15 miles round trip. I didn't want to go too far, I was worried about the miss above 2500.

I set the valve lash today and tried to adjust the carb. I also put new plugs in, the old ones had a lot of black deposits. (too rich?)
That seemed to help a little. Still getting a little miss and a little backfire thru the pipes of 3-2 downshift.

I guess it's running good enough for most, but I won't be happy until she's purring in all gears.

Still having problems with the reverse shift linkage too.

Congrats!!

That's got to be a good feeling. How's the transmission linkage on the road? I'll bet it will loosen up after 500 or so miles...

1-4 shifts are much better than my old Comp+ shifter. Short and, I hate to use this word, crisp! For lack of better description. No problems with 1-4 out on the road. I just can't go backward.
