Default Accelerator Cable Question??

Hello everyone,

Currently, my accelerator cable does not open the secondaries when the gas pedal is depressed completely to the floor. The cable is an aftermarket setup because the stock one would not work well with my demon. My question is should I make the entire length of the cable shorter? By this I mean, right now the cable is a little long and bends before it hits the firewall. Should I make that shorter and reduce the bend? Will that make the cable pull the linkage back further? Also, the linkage on the demon wants to come back in a downward motion, but when it hits the point that is parallel to the cable it stops. (in other words the cable would have to pull down below the bracket in order to fully open the secondaires.
I have been told to bend the pedal, cut the cable shorter, and change/bend the accelerator cable bracket, but I wanted to ask if anyone else had trouble with their cable before I do any of that or if anyone had any suggestions.

All suggestions welcome and appreciated.

Thanks,
Joe

I don't think shortening it would have any effect on the travel. Hard to say without a picture, but sounds to me like you need to move the cable closer to the manifold and maybe back a little to get right geometry.

100% positive the secondaries are mechanical. Just ordered the carb less than 1 month ago.

closer to the manifold?

Right now the bracket is under one of the carb nuts. Should I put it underneath the carb instead. (inbetween the carb and manifold gasket?) potential leak?

back a little? Do you mean towards the fire wall?

Thanks,
Joe

Sounds like 2 problems.

1) Wrong bracket for the carb. If you aren't using a correct bracket, then the "pull angle" will be off.

2) Wrong fulcrum point on the carb bellcrank. There should be another hole in the bellcrank on the carb that is lower (on a verticle plane up from the throttle plate shaft) than the one you are using. This will move the bellcrank/shaft further for a given amount of cable travel

if you need some visual ideas on linkage setups pick up a street rod magazine those guys do good work and have great ideas...

Paul,
you could have walked over and said that! You are only 5 feet away from me right now!!

What type of bracket should I look for? Right now I have a square bracket.
As for the hole on the bellcrank, I want it lower?? If the cable needs to pull the linkage down further, shouldn't it be higher? Higher would make make the angle larger??

Thanks,
Joe

Walked over and talked to Paul.
As usual, he is right. The place where the cable connects to the carb needs to be lower. In addition, I might need to lower the bracket.

I will post a picture ASAP.

Thanks,
Joe
