Just remember...the most dangerous people are those that have nothing to lose. Its easy for jobless drunk bum to call you a chicken cause he has nothing to lose or get in a lawsuit. Hell you kick his *** and he might end up with your car for free plus lots of cash out of your pocket.
Now Killing him is certainly an option but it takes a lot of planning not to get caught and body disposal will be an issue if you live in an apartment complex. Remember, friend will help ya move....But only family will help ya move a body
Sounds like a cable guy wannabe. In addition to being a psycho he is most likely also a liar trying to impress you. I doubt he removed anything from your car. If he is calling your dust shield a backing plate then it's major surgery to get it off, requiring the removal of the axle and the e-brake shoes (you could only hope he replaced the bearings while he was at it). He most likely looked under the rear end and imagined the rest.
That being said I would have most likely lost my mind at the moment. I congratulate you on keeping your cool. I agree with CGGorman "politely ask him to keep away from your property and if he has questions to ask"

Reason: I kant spel so good
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. You might have a big problem on your hands. You realize you will have to approach this situation with tact to protect your Corvette from him. If you do something rash it might end up getting you thrown in jail Most likely this guy didn't touch your car and check anything he is just a COO COO.

Seriously.
People who do whacked-out **** have whacked-out minds. Don't confront him or you'll likely regret it. I'd politely ask him to keep away from your property and if he has questions to ask. Call the police to get it on record...just in case. I'd also seriously consider moving out of his circle of influence somehow.
Some might consider it chicken****, but I value my safety and the safety of my family & posessions to blow a minor situation into a major situation...
DAMN GOOD POINT!!!!
some people are just plain downrite STUPID
if he leaves you alone, let it slide . If he
keeps pestering you, F**K him up, then call the cops
and say he threatend to kick YOUR ***
As long as we get a jury of out peers we will be ok....Like Chris Rock said..."I'm not saying he should have done it.....but I understand"
The idea of "a jury of our peers" alwasy scares me. Forget about our wives (bad enough) but what if that jury just worked on their trailing arms? i know that if I were on a jury, I'd hang anyone for any offense because of my own frustration!
I ran into a guy like that one. He backed his truck into my parked car cracking the tail light. (not the vette) He proceeded to break into the car by forcing down my passanger side window and pulls off my registration. At the time, it was registered at my parents address. He calls his "cop friend" to get the phone number, and tells my mother that he "thinks" he hit my car, but isn't sure. I get the frantic phone call from her flipping out cause she doesn't know if I'm alright...Long story short the guy, although weird, was really nice. He gave me a brand new tailight and 50 bucks for the trouble.
So you don't get in to trouble, and so he doesn't mess with your car while you are not around, simply tell him that you've changed your mind about the price. Tell him every one on the Corvette Forum has told you not to take less than $6k for it. Tell him you have decided to hang on to it a little longer so that you can get what it's really worth. Specially because of the rare backing plate.
