That sucks, I'd be going completely insane in your situation. Hope you get it back in one piece soon. I think I'll bump a security system to the top of my to do list.
I'm very sorry to hear this as I know very much how you feel as mine was also stolen three years ago. Have hope as mine was gone for over two weeks before it turned up. I too thought it was parted out.
I've posted on my forum and will report it to the Corvette Shop and Club out here in Seattle, WA
My friend has a 67 mustang and he solved the problem of wannabe theives by installing a $5 part from autozone. Its a button behind the brake pedal that you have to depress while you try to start the car. If you dont press it, the car will just turn over but never start.

I have a similar anti thieft device in my 67 Mustang ... It's a POS ford and flat wont start
Oh man... That really sucks. I really hope you get it back. You should periodically search ebay and other sites that sell vettes. You might accually find it, but probably not.
Ron - sorry to hear about the Vette. I've been through that once myself so I know how it is. I hope you recover it soon or at least had it insured with a good company. People like that are some of the lowest forms of life on earth. Should be strung up like horse thieves were in the old west, IMO.
In Reno...My premo 72 black 240 Z dissapeared! I was at my wits end the Cops didn't seem to care, the insurence company was giving me a hard time, A buddy at the casino one day said,"Hey I saw your car parked downtown going the wrong way on washington", I couldn't believe it , I split from work and sure enough it was sitting on the side of the road down town!.....So you never know..
I echo the question about where was it stolen? Was it in a private garage or parked on the street? What area of the city was it taken from, or was it in a suburb?
Chicago area gets lots of car thefts out of parking lots at shopping plazas. It's like a smogasbord for car thiefs. I agree with CGGorman...he will probably be offline and freaked out for a while.
Everyone...Thank you for your support...I really enjoy this forum.
To answer a few questions...
- I live in the suburbs....Wollowbrook
- Full coverage with state farm...I'm about to call them today. I'm not sure how it all works but I imagine I'll recover about 90% of replacement value. I insured it for what I paid for it 2 yeas ago and never updated it's value as I put time and $$$ into it.
- No alarm - The original was last on my list to replace and thought about a lojack...just never got around to it.
- It was stolen from my apartment complex...I usually never keep it there...I keep it in a secured parking garage at my office...I only had it at home because I was working on it over the weekend getting it ready for storage.
- The car was never on display at Bloomington Gold but my picture on the left was taken on the green at the end of the day.
- After a little closer examination of the broken glass, my guess is that they pushed it onto a flatbed tow truck...I would have heard it if they started it up and took it for a joy ride...even the neighbors car alarm goes off when i start mine up.
The worst part is that I should be able to keep it at my apartment...I can't imagine not being able to enjoy owning a vette just because of where and how I live.
