The stall rpm is just a rating. The same converter in a light car with a mild engine will stall at 2000rpm, but in a heavy car with a torquey engine will stall at 3000rpm.
The rating is based on a 3200 lb car making 270hp (or something like that). You really need to understand your engine's power curve and and weight of your car. Otherwise you are just buying a part w/ a bigger number.
kanka is correct about the red light characteristics. You would be swapping feet from the gas and brake pedal to keep the rpms up and the engine clean. With a good working converter you just need to stop it from creeping with a little brake pedal pressure. Dont worry about cam sounds at 850, if you have it, it will be obvious. However for a really really wild sound, give it more compression. It will crackel like a fueler.
