went from 3.70's to 3.36's. With traffic running at 85mph out on I75, it's nice to have. Now that I have the 200r4, the revs are really down there. If I ever toast these gears, I might go back up to 3.55, maybe even back to 3.70's if I start racing more. If it weren't for the OD tranny though, I'd never consider it.
From: Arlington Va Current ride 04 vert, previous vettes: 69 vert, 77 resto mod
3.08 in my 77 and i'm keeping them and going the 700r4 OD tranny route to get better 1st gear performance and the OD benefits....(i'm adding some more muscle to the engine compartment also to make this set up work)
I have 3.08s right now but I need to rebuild the differential so I'm going to go with 3.73s or 4.11s. I really don't do much highway driving and the RPMs with the 200-4R will be lower in OD with 4.11s then they would be with 3.08s and a TH350. That L48 needs all the help it can get...
No place to run A buck fifty+ MPH with those tall gears so my interest is getting there quicker with hard charging pieces. 4.11 in the 68 L88 and 4.56 in the 62 Fi car. 3 early BB Camaros, 2 with 4.11 and one with 4.56.
My '81 has 3.08 with the TH350c, but I'm looking for a 3.73 or 4.11 gearset(oh Santa...)
In the past, my '70.5 Z/28 had 3.73; '68 Camaro 396 auto had 4.56(!!); '70 GTO had 3.73 then 2.78 from an Olds Vista Cruiser; '89 Mustang GT 5spd had 3.55, what a tire burner!
I have 3:55's in my 79 with a TH350 auto. Has good performance around town but running at 70 its turning 3200 rpms. For the type of driving I enjoy I need either a 5 speed or an od tranny. But its all in what you want from your Vette. I like the 3:55 gears and will keep them. Good luck with your decision!
4.11's in my '76 406 TH400. I love them on the street. A little touchy at the strip but got me consistant bottom 12's on radials. In my previous vettes I have had 4.56 and 4.88 (yes, they were an over the counter corvette part) and were the most fun on the street.
guys,
just wondering what axle ratio you have,
mine is a 3.08 (1977) and i'm gonna change to a 3.77 or 4.11,
i don't do much highway driving so i'm thinking of going to 4.11,
what u think,
natt
I went from 3.08' to 3.73's behind a 700R4. I would consider 3.55's if I were to change again. Choosing the right gearing for yourself depends on the type of engine your running and type of driving you do.

This is a timely thread for me. Right now I've got the 2.73s but am in the process of rebuilding the diff now so I'm thinking about going to the 3.36. Sounds like a good compromise for all around driving with the stock auto. Any opinions?
