Smart strut jam nuts keep backing off....

I put a set of smart struts on a friend of mines 75 coupe, I lined them up by eye as best that I could and tighten the crap out of the lock nuts. He carried the car straight to the alignment shop where a 4 wheel alignment was done. He drove his car no more that 20 miles when the lock nuts backed off on the right side allowing the wheel to lay out, someone following him got his attention and informed him about the wheel laying over severly but before he could get stopped from 45 mph he said it started to vibrate, the rear wheel broke all 5 lugs off, and the tire/wheel combination tore the whole right side fender off. After the body was repaired and another alignment the jam nut continued to loosen no mater how tight we got them. We ended up having to spot weld each nut and finally feel comfortable driving the car. I would not put this particular setup on "my" car after this experience.
