I've heard of lift bars... But that front mount gives a whole new spin on that idea!
LOL you like that huh, I use the "I" bolt and a piece of "C" channel bolted across the rear cover to pick it up. One of those Harbor frieght sissor tranny jacks works great to raise or lower it when the car is on jack stands.

Yes you can replace the yokes without rebuilding the differential. The thing to check is the amount of play in the yokes. If you have less then .040" I wouldn't remove the differential for that. If you have it out then it would the time to check it good. If the wear is beyond .100" then all the fine chips end up in the oil and the bearings.
If you don't have an indicator to check end play, measure the end. A new yoke is approx 3/16" from the end to the snap ring groove. A quick check is to see if the chamfer is on the end of the yoke is still there. Most times you won't have to replace the posi pin(shaft) unless you see a lot of wear. The pin is harder then the yoke ends, especially original mid 70's yokes.
Also with the cover off, rotate the carrier and look at the hole for the pin to see if it's ovaled or if there are any cracks leading to it.
