When I turn the heater fan switch on high my turn signal will not flash, if I turn the fan switch down one notch or off they work fine, also before with the back light switch wires connected the turn signals would not work, I believe it is two different problems, any body ran into this before? thanks ahead of time for any help you may give me, DAVEWSC
Noticed that you bought your Vette a couple of months ago. You don't say if you bought the car with these issues or they just started happening? There is no easy way to find the problem. First step is to invest in a good wiring diagram for your car. You probably will use it more than once. Check the fuse box for any looseness or signs of corrosion. If that all checks out, I would start tracing all the wires/connections in question looking for any signs of splicing that should not be there according to your wiring diagrams. It seems the fan circuit is somehow connected with the turn signal circuit and it's drawing power. Look also for any wires that might be grounding on metal parts.
Sorry this is vague, but this sounds very strange, like something is not hooked up correctly.
The heater fan draws a lot of current. I would replace the flasher because the don't work too well when they get old and the fact that th heater blower is pulling all of the current.....they are cheap. It may fix the problem. IF the alternator doesn't put out enough at idle the problem is even worse. This is quite often the case with generic over the counter alternators.. Corvettes use a different alternator than most place sell you. You usually get a Chevy unit. They (Corvette specific) put out more at idle than their Chevy counterparts. If your amp gauge shows discharge at idle with lights, heater blower etc. on then the alternator is not funtioning properly. Low output can cause al sorts of wierd things to happen.
I will try a new flasher, what you said makes a lot of sense, My alternator is the original 1970 unit but it was just rebuilt and by the amp gauge it is working great, thanks, DAVEWSC
If you have the original 1970 alternator.... Hang on to it at all costs.. They are a very rare part (By number) that cannot be replaced. Worth big $ To someone want to restore a 1970.
