well,
i have this project through my company where i have to design/build 24 different radiator covers for a mother/daughter shelter.... i have the design done and about to build but one issue i have is that i'm using perferated metal for the front and top and want to paint it with a high temp paint....possibly a white or light color.....silver maybe.... do they make a engine high temp paint in a light color that i could use for this application.... i've only seen orange,blue,red,black.....any other colors out there?
Plastikote makes a nice line of engine paint. I've used their clear, black, and white. They have a silver, too, among other colors. It's a ceramic matrix, I think, but doesn't require high temps to cure like header paint. Lays down nice, too.

you need to pay attention to LEAD CONTENT if its indoors especailly if kids are around it....automotive paints may not be appropriate....

Unless you're running temperatures over 250 degrees, you don't need special hi-temp paints. You can use a nice catalyzed urethane enamel (like PPG's Delstar series), shoot it with a regular paint gun, and get some very professional results in any color you want. Catalyzed urethane holds up great to temperature without fading or losing its luster - especially if you prime the parts with an epoxy primer first (like PPG's DP-series primers).
If you see my wife down at the shelter, tell her that I'm out working in the garage, so she can come home now.
Plasti-kote's MSDS sheet indicate no lead (or any other potentially toxic substance) in either White or silver colors once cured. Obviously, the carriers are evil...
thanks for the replies... i wasn't too sure on the matter...... since it's a water and not steam system, the temp shouldn't get passed 212 degrees...... can i find the paints at murrays or would it be an order item? i have to get it done by dec 27..installed... not much time for anything....hopefully i'll be able to make the deadline......
I never had the kind of results with hi-temp engine paints that I liked. While rebuilding my old Harley I asked a buddy who I trusted what he would use on the heads and barrels. He said Rustoleum. I thought he was putting me on, but insisted I would be happy with the results and it would hold up under the heat. He was right, I got a beautiful gloss black finish that held up several years until i sold it. Your hot water radiator system is never going to come close to the temps of a Harley engine and it is safe. The PPG DL stuff is great, but costs about $75 for two quarts and overkill for your application IMO. Rustoleum is about $5 a spray can and comes in any color. In reality, you could probably get buy with Wally Worlds $1 a can spray but with limited color selection. Anyway, for what it's worth, that's my 2 cents.
