Hey Dave - I guess you know your account is working now.
I contacted one of the mods last night ... "ddecart".
He had your account reset ... dunno what the problem was.

Everyone please welcome Dave. He is a good friend who just
bought his 73 from another member and friend, 73ken73.
Dave is an awesome Harley mechanic and custom bike builder, but
he's gonna need some advice as he tries to get the 73 perfect.

Right now, he's got her in warm storage, interior out, radiator
out, and basically cleaning everything up. It's a black 73, black
interior, reworked SB (~350HP), sidepipes, and in very nice shape.

I was over visiting last night ... wish I snapped a few pictures,
but I left my camera at work.

He has 2 mechanical tachs he is looking at. One behaves erratic
and indicates WAY too high. The other has the needle getting
stuck at about 2500 - I think. I don't know squat about mechanical tachs.

Hello, and welcome. I'm sort of new to Corvettes myself and enjoy all the informative posts. I also like Harleys and have a 1200 Sportster. Good sounds!

Hi Dave and welcome,,,besides lubing the cable and the gear you might want ta look at the gear that is on the dist end of the fitting that the cable screws to, it could be worn, dunno if you can see inside once you un-screw the fitting from the dist. to look at the main shaft. But definately try lubing them, Peace,,,Craig

Welcome Dave.
My mechanical tach is driven by a new MSD dist and reads low (compared to my elect diagnostic meter) even after replacing the tach cable. So i'm still troubleshooting mine and may need to R&R gauge from panel. I have done this before and managed to break the mounting plastic ears off. Take ur time here as repairing and painting 30 yr old plastic is not fun.
I just got my center gauge cluster instruments back from Corvette Instrument Service (www.corvetteinstrutments.com) and would have to recommend them - great rebuilding sevice/product and price.
Good luck. cardo0

Those mechanical Tachs have a speed cup that pivots in a worm gear(the one that the cable goes into) they wear and cause the sticking and or erratic behavior.Might have to have it rebuilt.
