if you want the frame off and all shiny and coated and the same for the parts, its gonna put you over 30,000 to 40,000- depends what you want out of it. plan on puttin out money, these cars are not cheap-example-new frame for a 57 chevy ----$700-frame for corvette (smaller) $3500--- and most of the re-po parts are not worth 1/100 of what the vendors are asking ,there cheap plastic parts ,,nothing like the origional,,that were still cheap!-the person who called these cars money pits hit the nail on the head---im in well over 50,000 and counting!!----
Just for clarification, the LT-1 was available with the automatic and even possible to get it combined with A/C (for 72 ONLY). Very rare combo with only about 240 cars so equipped. The tach on 72 LT-1 cars with A/C had a reduced red line of 5600 RPM vs the 6500 RPM red line for non-A/C equipped cars.
This sounds like it might be a pretty good core for a resto project. After all, this thing IS a cheap, LT-1, bumper shark kind of opportunity here guys. For that kind of cabbage, how far off could you be?

Air was available for the first time with a 72 LT-1 but an auto was never an option that I'm aware of. If you can show many any documentation of an auto LT-1 I'd be interested in seeing it.

I do not have any real documentation but the "Black Book" lists the engine suffix code as "CRS" for a '72 Vette with LT-1 and A/T. I based my comment on this scap of information. It would not amaze me if it turns out to be not an available combination or a partial year situation. They also said the M40 A/T was not available with the LT-1 on the facing page of the same book so there you have it
It is rather curious bit of trivia that LT-1's were not used with A/T in Vettes for '70 or '71 (or possibly '72), but the LT-1 when installed in a Camaro was available with A/T for all those year models. Why the discrimination, I do not know.
Still, this Vette is either a good find or a great find.
I looked up the 72 specs in every one of my reference books and they all say the same thing. The 255 horse engine could only be ordered with a 4-speed. Look to see if the intake is alum. or cast iron, and if it has a holley or a q-jet carb. The hood would be raised with LT-1 on both sides also. Also, the tach should redline at 5300 for a 200 horse, and 6500 for a 255 horse, unless it had ac, then it should be 5600. The valve covers on a 200 horse are stamped steel, and the 255 has alum. ones.
I would still buy it for the $4000 in a heartbeat.
Hope this helps some. Tom

Thanks for the feedback, I couldn't find my black book even though I looked all over. It would be interesting to see if someone can come up with a documented 72 LT-1 auto, to see if they maybe do exist.
