Default 77 PS control valve replace

I have a leaking ps control valve on my 77 which I am going to replace. I have read the passenger car manual about replacing the valve but I think I'm missing something. I removed the lines, clamp bolt to relay rod and the nut securing the control valve to the pitman arm. How do I get the valve released from the pitman arm. I tried a tie rod separator but it won't budge. Do I need to release the inner tie rod from the relay rod? I't doesn't say that in the manual but I see no other way to allow the valve to release from the pitman arm. Any help would be appreciated.

hmm? I used a set of forks from Sears. Includes 3 different width forks...says they are for tie rods, ball joints and misc cylinders. I used the narrow one and with a couple sharp whacks...came right off...

If it won't budge, get a bigger hammer.

Try A Little Heat As Well But Not Much! I Recommend Buying New Valve Or Re- Man, From A Reputable Corvette Distributor. Im On Third Valve Install Because Of Bad/cheap Parts From Local Stores. Gonna Buy New From Vbp Now. Each Valve I Installed Had Less Than 1k Miles Before I Had To Replace! And A-zone, Pep, Ect.. Have 90 Day Limited Garranty.

Don't use a pickle fork on it.... you can severely damage the internals of the gear box. I can't count the number of times I've had to post this comment. It should be a sticky note.

If your tie rod tool won't remove it, either you're not applying enough force, or you need a different tool. I use an OTC pitman arm puller which works fine every time.

I got the valve loose by removing the relay to tie rod connection. I was using a tie rod removal tool but switched to a ball joint removal tool (fork a little wider). Gave it a couple of taps and it came right off the pitman arm. Thanks for you help.
