I'm the original owner of this '76. From day one, when I put the petal to the metal, metal floor in '76, it starts to accelerate but then starts to miss. Can't believe that I'm just now addessing this issue, but can't resist asking with the knowledge in this forum.

It could be the timing, a vacuum leak or the fuel pump isn't keeping the carb full of gas causing a lean condition at WOT.

Search for Lars' paper on setting the timing.

Good Luck

I would check the plug wires. Sometimes their weakness only shows up under a load.

Is it kind of a bog or hesitation only when you floor it? You have a Quadrajet carb, right? If so my first guess would be secondary wind up spring tension. Does it go away as RPM increases or does it keep missing?

If not, can you specify approximately what RPM the miss happens at? Does the car perform well otherwise? Any smoke?

If it is a hesitation I would guess you have some slop/slack in the accelerator pump linkage.
