I need a high-torque mini starter for my Corvette. What are you guys using? Summit has a million to pick from: what do I look for? Anything to stay away from?
1) less weight
2) less stress on the bolts that hold the starter motor. I broke off a piece of my engine block (where the starter mounts) because of too much stress on those bolts...
The higher the compression the more prone to cracking it is when not using that brace, it's not there for nothing. It also helps prevent warpage of the block due to the weight of the stock starter hanging there. Another good idea for high compression motors is to use a start retard.
What is the reason for buying a mni starter, my rebuilt stock starter works fine ?
Although there are other cheaper fixes for starter heat soak...some guys install mini's to solve this age old chevy starter problem associated with headers.

OK that's a good reason, another would be header clearance porblems on certain headers, don't get me wrong here, I was looking at them a while back and you know I like to spend money on the Vette even for stuff that doesn't actually do anything but I couldn't bring myself to buy one to replace my perfectly functioning rebuilt stock unit. Now on a scratch engine buildup if you didn't have a good starter, it certainly makes sense
