I wouldn't be able to hear it on my car... I'm sure that the car is louder than the starter...

So why are some of them $150 and some $250? Is it a matter of brand name or something? I'm glad to hear the Summit starter is working well for you guys.

I'm looking to fix heat-soak issues. My Hooker headers were frying out the stock starter.

I am using a stock C4 L98 mini-starter. Available from GM and rebuilt from most parts stores.

Same here, "Keep your GM car all GM" is what the air cleaner sticker says, I like my Delco (OK Nippon Denso, Japan) L98 starter.

I've got one of the GM mini-starters that looks like a small stock starter. The '77 now starts quickly, and never has heat-soak or battery issues (I think the fried stock starter ate my battery).

I did not realize the C4s used a mini-starter. Does it have high gear reduction like most others? Any particular year I need to ask for, or will any C4 starter work? Thanks!

I also have had great sucess with a Summit starter. I got it for both weight reduction and to eliminate heat soak problems.

Mine is from a 91, Hollander says 88-91 (except ZR1) are the same. No other interchange. It is a gear reduction type.

The summit starters are actually made in Canada, and they go by the same specs and looks as the Powermasters. I have one on my car getting ready to install, and my neighbor got one for his last year when he had starter heat soak problems. They are quality build and at a great price!

Bought mine from Ecklers about 6 months ago, driven my car about 2,000 miles, and just yesterday it fell apart! Had to manually hold it in place to start my car...now I have to use Lockthread to keep it in place...

You guys are discussing two issues... Mini and high torque. I have a Powermaster Xs torque for header clearance and starting torque for my 434 w/ 11:1 compression. It's a mini but also has a gear reduction system to optimize torque. The ebay deal was not a gear reduction starter although it could be called mini.
