If this helps anyone, I sent a e-mail to Jet Hot for the sterling silver finish on the Hooker headers and sidepipes. They got back to me today, very quickly I might add, and quoted me $480 for the sterling silver finish, plus shipping. Plus $40 for the stripping, since they are chrome now.
Not too bad of a price I think. What do you guys think? worth it or not? My local powder coater said about $250-300 for the powder coating.
i did the same thing 7yrs ago w/the jethot, still like new 50,000 miles later. have no idea how powder coating will hold up to the heat over time but it sure is pretty.
Try Airborne coatings. They have a website and several locations in eastern US. They have a lot of big accounts with NASCAR, NHRA, etc. teams. They also have a better guarantee on used parts than jethot (3 vs 1 yr).
Check out HPC Coating. $200 for both headers, quick turn around. Just measured the temps on my 93 z and I was getting about 300 to 350 deg right out of the head, with the header wrap i was seeing close to 600 at the head. Made a big difference. ON my big block in the vette I'm seeing 400 to 450 at the head. It used to melt any wire within 2 inches or more, now everything gets to keep its insulation. http://www.hpcoatings.com/
I had Crest Coatings in Anaheim, CA do my Thorley headers. They do aerospace work and formula car headers. For $150 they stripped the chrome and applied the silvery, ceramic coating. This was done probably close to 10 years ago now, but they still look like the day I put them on.
One thing to consider in price. Crest did the outsides and as far as they could spray from the outsides into the pipes for the insides. Jet notes that they do both the insides and he outsides. Mine still look like new on the outsides, but I've no way to look inside (other than removal). Also, coating both the outsides and insides may have a heat advantage. Still, mine still look and work great at a fraction of the Jet price.

And, most important, they were also cheaper!
Jet Hot said an unlimited warranty agains chipping, peeling, and discoloration for 3 years.

At the time I had mine done, the 3 years was for new parts only. My headers were used so the warranty was just 1 year. They may have changed their policy since then.
My BB headers are there now being coated
They were not chrome so teh extra $40 doesn't apply
Dealing with Chris Morris there
My headers (silver jet hot) are only $299 plus shipping back
Then when I got my quote it said to call and lock in a 10% discount which I did. That offset the return shipping.
Long story short.
$299 for silver jet hot on full length headers
and I paid for shipping on the way up via UPS
will post pics upon return
Here is just before sending
