Default Leaking Drain Plug !!!

Well Guy's I have tried everything to stop the oil leak, I have tried 2 self tapping plugs, different washer's and still those few drops!
well I called up the auto parts store to order a new oil pan, and to my
surprise they tell me that it only uses 4 1/2 Quarts of oil with the
filter! now I was under the imppresion that it took 5 Quarts to fill her up with the oil filter.I have been getting charged for 5 Quarts of Mobil1 when I get my oil changed, what's up with that??

Does anyone have an opinion on this?

the volume is 5qts... people put in 4.5 so the crank doesn't cause the oil to foam up.

and get used to a little drip there... it's annoying as hell, ain't it?

think about it, you are going to spend God knows how much for a new pan and get all dirty changing the bitch only to stop a tiny leak? eh... I have done oil pan gaskets... they are a pain in the ***...

Sounds like the pan is slightly bent. Common if they bottom out on the pan even 1 time. If this is so, you can remove pan and straighten it out with a hommer, long extention and a dolly to back up the pan. I usually just set it on the smooth concrete and let it be my dolly.

a friend of mine had the very same problem. what he did is to take a piece of rubber from an old tire inner tube and make a rubber washer out of it. in order is was: pan, rubber gasket, steel washer, bolt. it worked great!

I almost forgot, my favorite snot for the bolt threads is liquid teflon made by Permatex. Sometimes just a little dab makes all the difference.

Yeah but what if the teflon gets in the crank case won't it
hurt it?

I just use a very slight smear and have no problems. I like that stuff so much, I would put it on salad if I could

I gotta be honest here, if I didn't have that little oil drip that always and forever dangles from my oil drain plug, that is when I would start to worry. I have never owned a GM car that came with a dripless option!!

I have the same problem which will be fixed end of this week. I spoke to Chris late last week about this. About 5 months ago, I replaced the drain bolt, and picked up a new one from the local Chevy parts. There was no mention at that time there are two bolts. The one I replaced had a nylon washer, the new one had a built-in rubber sealer. Never had a problem with the old one, but now with this new one it is not sealing.

I found out from Chris there are two listings, metric and standard threads. The metric one has the built-in rubber sealer while the standard has the nylon washer. Apparently the metric one doesn't seal well when used in the pan that requires the standard.

Check your drain plug, maybe you have the wrong one.

Wow, I've got over 210,000 miles on the clock and I've always added 5.5 quarts of mobil 1 synthetic. As for the drips I park on a carpet in the garage... there's always something dripping - if there's nothing dripping, something is wrong. So how much fluid am I supposed to add when I change my headlight filter?
