So how many miles before you change your paper Ac/ Delco air filter?

I just finished cleaning and reoiling my K&N; I do that 2-3 times a year.

Check your owner's manual for recommendations on the stock paper filter.

When the thought occurs to you ("Hmmm, I wonder if I should replace my filter?"), then it's time to put a new one in.

I check mine at each oil change. If it needs attention, I act accordingly. It isn't that hard to access, you just have to be dressed so that you don't mind leaning on something dirty. - That's why I do it when I am changing my oil - I'm already in my 'working' clothes.

K&N, less of a worry!

It depends on how many miles the car sees each year, I don't drive it in the snow but then it probably wouldn't get to dirty in the winter.

Maybe I should get snow tires, or get the acid treatment on the old ingrown toenail?

I have a K&N, but if I had a paper element filter, I would change it depending on my driving conditions. If you live in a really dusty, dry climate, then you probably ought to change it more often.

Just for reference, the Helms specifies every 30,000 miles.

Auto Zone wants 72 bucks for a K&N and 16.99 for an STP air filter.
So the 16.99 STP filter looks tempting...

Wow! 2-3 times per year to clean and oil the K&N???? - That seems excessive to me. If a paper filter, in the manual, is supposed to last 30k miles, which even on daily driver would be 2+ years..... 3 times a year maintenance seems like overkill on a K&N? Am I wrong?

No, you are right.
The K & N filters better as it gets dirty. I have a K & N on my daily driver VW and it hasn't been cleaned in four years.....that car still gets 36-38 mpg on the highway.
The AC-Delco paper filter in the Vette gets replaced every 20K miles.

The K&N filters better when it's dirty, but doesn't flow better.

Actually, paper filters work better when they're dirty too, up to a point. The K&N can just hold a helluva lot more dirt.

I have to clean mine after two trips to the track.

Also, flip your air filter 180 to get more life out of it. Usually just dirties certain parts of the filter.
