Welcome to the forum. As for tires, Car & Driver has a performance tire review in their latest issue, you might want to check that out before buying.
Good luck, sounds like you're going all out in restoring the car. But the best part of owning a Vette is driving!!!

Sounds like a great tire..Does goodyear make it in 255 50 16? Tire rack says it can't be found in that size

They don't come in the appropriate 16-inch sizes - that's why I suggested the Eagle HP Ultra Plus's; they're the only performance Goodyears in that size. There are other performance choices from other manufacturers, of course, but if you are looking to have the car judged for originality by the NCRS, you will take less of a deduction if your replacement tires are Goodyears.

By the way, I would definitely hold on to those ancient VR-50s until somebody starts making replica Gatorbacks.
