Default Xp898

This was built in 1973 on a Chevy Vega chassis. There are several C4 styling clues on this. I LIKE the hood!

I found this on the CAC prototype site.

Not showing a link or a pic, Ron. But I agree about the styling cues...

It does have a distinctive C4 likeness. I wish they had put those wheels on a C4.

I remember seeing an article about this car back when I was driving a Vega. It looked so cool, but it was built like a cooler chest and it had a warping aluminum 4-cylinder. I think another variant of the prototype had a removable hartop. I am so glad that it found a real chassis and engine before it wound up in my driveway!

That prototype never got a lot of print. Maybe because of the Vega's bad rep.?? Had a Cosworth Vega, neat car, first EFI car I owned, but no V-8 go-power

Wish they would have incorporated the hood into the C4. Best GM styling excersize ever.

To me it looks like a Studebaker Avanti 2 seater.

The 1/8 scale clay was shipped back to South Bend Indiana for Robert Doehler and the Studebaker styling crew to work on. The two-seater design became a four seater. The windsheild pillar was made more upright when Egbert bumped his head while getting into the seating buck. The "Coke bottle" shape was moderated. The assymetrical hood bump was borrowed from some of Loewys early sketches for the Avanti. The taillights were modified to make them easier to produce, and the quad-headlights were changed to single headlights to reduce cost. By April 27th, the full-sized clay was done.
