Hello Everyone
Although i had to make many concessions.It's a 1986 coupe,silver & black and o God how i love it!!!
And o God how my wife hates it!!!
Over the many years i have had many cars, camaros, triumphs, fiats, but never, never have i owned something like this.
When you sit in it,although i would't know for sure ,but it feels like your in a fighter jet. When you drive it it feels like a 1948 pickup truck with broken leaf springs and no shocks that sticks to the road like glue ,goes like hell ,and knows how to steer better than i do.I swear i don't have to drive this thing,it almost does it for me.I love it,i love it,
i love it!!!!
Now for those concessions, one of the many being i would do all the work on it,which i don't mind.I have a good size shop and decent tools.I
purchased a factory manual , but i can see that i am going to need help, thats where i hope your members knowlege will come into play.
I apoligize that at this time i can't bring very much to this party but my
enthusiasm .But perhaps down the road i will be able to help a newbe like myself.I've only had the car for a month and my first job is to replace a leaking water pump.My first question to anyone is since i have to remove so much to get at the pump, what else do you recommend replacing?
I'm thinking timing chain/gears/seal.The car has 98,000 on it, but it runs like a dream, dosn't miss a lick, and just passed smog as almost a
zero emitter ,so do you think i should spend the extra time and money?
Well, thanks for letting me ramble, and thanks in advance for any help.
sincerely,Lane.
If you have the water pump off, its just a matter of dropping the pan (some do, some dont)to pull the timing cover off and throw a chain in. WHy not? Pan drops out super quick on these cars, nothing to it. Balancer might be a PITA to get off, though.

One thing you should do is to put your home town in your profile. There is a possibility you might have other Forum members in your area who would be happy to come over and help you.
While you have her apart you might want to clean and paint your valve covers and plenum. You can get the almost correct color paint from Mid America or Corvette Central. Might as well change the plugs and wires and put on a new cap and rotor while you are at it. It might be a good idea to replace all your fluids and filters too.
Welcome to the addiction and tell the wifey that this will keep you out of the bars!

My wife don't ride in mine. Don't care. She has nice iron, likes classic stuff shet like that, stays out of the garage. She doesn't go to car shows.
You may have to go to car shows without her. How is the headlight's working? Make sure they are popping up and holding. Any problems on that end, we can help you out.

My wife is the same way. Scared of it, said the seat hits her neck wrong....but all of her friends will kill to drive it!
