I have had my vette 3 weeks and have not even had a cop behind me - I guess I am missing something here?

Haven't had that issue yet. Only ticket was in a 1991 Town Car for blowing a light at midnight, even though it was blinking yellow. I've driven a 73 Triumph GT6 for 2 years(for sale $3k, 51,900 miles) and didn't get profiled in that either. It's my luck I get nailed in my daily driver.

As far as 19 in a sports car, I'm 18 in a minty Corvette Convertible with sweet wheels, and have no problems. However, I wouldn't be surprised if a cop would suspect me, they decide who to follow based on the odds, and they have good reason to do so.

I'm 0 for 4 on tickets. I think it's very wrong that a cop discriminates based on age and not the infraction. I try to be as courteous/sociable as possible without being an asskisser.

Actually, one time a cop was following me home late at night from work which annoyed me. So I pulled over which confused the hell out him. I asked him why he was following me. Then he bumbled a bit and then tried to say I was speeding. I got flat out cocky and said "No I wasn't".
"I saw you pull out and follow me down here. I live in this neighborhood, I know what the speed limits are."

Thats the only time I've been cocky with a cop, and he just got in his car and left.

I won't consider that a pull over since he never even flashed his lights.

The only ticket I've gotten since getting my Vette was in my Nissan sedan. It was in the middle of the night in Ohio. I wasn't paying enough attention after being on the interstates for hours and got caught doing 55 in a 40 zone.

It was more of a chase. He didn't have his disco lights on, but when you can see him coming up fast behind, you know you did something wrong. I was still too far for him to run my tag. I know if he did, he would have jacked me for sure.

I think you'd need a search warrant for that. Dunno about the "probable cause" though.

When I had my first vette in 98 I would
get pulled over all the time for stupid things.
Talked with other vette owners in my town
and they would get pulled over a lot for
stupid things to. For example one night
driving home I seen a cop parked at
a gas station not even facing me. He
claimed he saw me too far over in my lane?
What is that? He did not ticket me
but I counted 9 times that month I was
pulled over. One cop told me that there was
a known drug dealer with a 91 black vette,
I had a 86 black vette. If they would have
learned the differences from a 86 and a 91
I think I would have been ok. But I found
that if you are out driving past midnight with
a vette in my town, no matter what they will
pull you over. Sad but true!

OK, I have been a cop for 18 years and I can tell you that it is in fact a target rich environment. I pull people over for the violation not the type of car they drive. I will also tell you that people bring it on themselves, when you have a fast looking car and drive like a fool what do you expect, that we are just going to let you keep being a fool.

I have better and more important things to do during my day. You can bet that if I pull you over it is truly because you are doing something very stupid that endangers the life of the honest hardworking person who does not want to have to worry about getting killed on the way to get a gallon of milk.

When I run radar I will not even consider pulling someone over who is 10 mph over the limit as everyone is going that fast, but if you are 15 or more over the limit you know that you are speeding so don't give me or the cop who pulls you over that stupid, what did I do wrong look because you know you are wrong.

Show a little respect to the cop and be polite and you will not believe how much you get in return. If you are 20 over the limit and he writes you for 10 over the limit to give you a break don't be an a hole to him, he could have written you the whole thing.

When I walk up to a car and the person is sincer and sorry for their actions 9 out of 10 times I just give them a verbal warning. If I walk up and they give me attitude or lip I let the pen do my talking.

Just be nice.

You bring up very good points. Im always try to be nice when I get pulled over. It doesnt help the situation to be rude. Somtimes its hard because you and the cop both know you got pulled over for a stupid reason.

I have been in law enforcement for 33 years - for us to stop you, we have to have probable cause (violation of the law). Are there a lot of minor, nit pikky violations we can use......... sure is. Are there some officers that are more zealous than others ......... sure is, but they mature out of it. We get paid no more money if we stop 300 cars a shift or 1 car a shift.

Law enforcement is out there for public safety, I would rather have you upset over a traffic stop that maybe you thought was BS - compared to 10 minutes later having to tell your family you were killed in a car wreck OR even worse - how would you feel if you were responsible for killing someone else.

Law enforcement by far targets dirtbags over sports cars & dirtbags can also drive sports cars ....... if you don't want stopped ............ drive sensible and responsible. Speed is for the tracks.

I have gotten numerous tickets in my vette and other cars. I've probably gotten about 8 tickets in 3 years of driving. With the way I drive, I accept the fact that I will get a ticket every so often, and it's well worth it. However, I only have one ticket on my record. You really have to be smart about what to do after you get the ticket. Don't just send the money in, that's the worst thing you can do. Always go to court, even if you know you're guilty. You have nothing to lose. If the cop doesn't show up, you are automatically acquitted. If he does show up, the judge will probably decrease the fine and give you supervision, so you don't get a conviction on your record. I've been guilty for all of my tickets, but I've only gotten one conviction. Most times I got out with a $50 fine, but some times I got out with no fine at all. If I didn't go to court, I would have paid at least $100 plus I would have gotten a conviction. So I highly suggest you go to court and contest your ticket.

Seldom do you hear, "Did you stop me because I ran that red light?" (Or add any other violation.)
Fact is, there's so many idiots on the road in such a variety of cars in a variety of color that it's a target rich environment for traffic enforcement.
Yep, what he said...

Seriously though...... 3 stops and only one ticket that you admit you had coming?

Thats not bad...... I'd say you just need to have better timing

I am 20 and I have had two tickets. The first was midnight the day of my birthday in my vette....a buddy and i were racing down a local highway and there was a cop on top of a hill...we were doing 120 in a 60 then we tried to lose him (his lights weren't on) when he finally caught up to us he asked us to get out of the cars asked for id's searched our cars gave us a chewing out we were terrified because twenty over is wreckless which gets your car impounded and a ride with them (if they so choose) then he handed us our tickets and told me happy birthday...the cop only wrote us up for 75 in a 60 (which isnt wreckless).....being nice and scared ****less pays off. although i wont be doing that anytime soon....the second ticket was in my jeep 63 in 60 wtf? the first ticket was $10 because it was my first offense the second ticket was $65. As far as being profiled....i dont know ive been followed in both my vehicles almost to the point of my driveway. Maybe i just cant drive....

you sound more like the exception rather than the rule. good for you, you seem like a fair man indeed.

however, i must tell you that as nice as i've been in the past, it didn't amount to a hill of beans. there are too many out there who have a completely different approach than you do. my experience has been that the younger cops are the worst. hands down. they love to get than pen cranked up AND give the driver HIS attitude.

i could only wish there are more officers out there like you. but i don't there there are near enough

That still doesn't make it right. Just think if you hadn't done anything in the first place, you wouldn't even have to worry about court. In my town, the judge remembers everyone.
I got pulled over back in '86 for doing 110 in a 50 by 7 cops. Was I guilty? I sure was. They thought I was running from them, truth is, I couldn't stop. Try stopping quickley in a 4000 lb car with 4 drum brakes, it ain't happening. Just think if someone pulled out in front of me.
Anyway, I get to court and the only reason I got off easy and kept my license was because my boss and the judge were best friends. The judge told me he could have done this and done that but because of my job he was going to let me of early. But he also said if I ever showed up in his court again, he was going to nail me to the wall. Well fast forward to 1989, I got a ticket for carelss driving(wasn't my fault),I got cut off and nailed a chick in the rear, got a lawyer for that one but the judge made it stick even though it was clear that it was her fault. So going to court is not a gaurantee that you will get off, and if you didn't do anything in the first place, you wouldn't have to worry.
